There Was a Song

There was a song
that once was my climactic point
of the night.
I’d sing, drunk and wouldn’t care, I wasn’t
even there. And it was good.

The same song,
everything with it:
reminiscence,
happiness,
has dissipated.

I know now it’s a sad song,
I’ve known it too long
to be happy.
It signals my retirement
to bed. Intoxication, my sandman.
